Guess My Rule

Figure out the secret rule being used to sort a set of shapes into two categories.

There is 1 version of Guess My Rule.

The activity can be adapted to make it easier or harder, depending on children’s current knowledge of shapes.

Guess My Rule

This activity is suitable for all children, from those starting to learn about shapes to those learning to describe the defining features (for example, sides and angles) of shape families (for example, triangles, rectangles).

Primary Objective

  • Identifying shapes and describing the characteristics of shapes
  • Sorting shapes based on different rules, such as shape family (for example, triangles vs. rectangles), geometric features (for example, shapes with four sides/angles vs. shapes with five sides/angles), and geometric properties (for example, shapes with four equal length sides vs. shapes without)
